Soph's post II

At the beginning of May, we had alot of friends and family come to Ottawa for Marc and Lori's wedding on the 5th. My mom, and her friend Karen came from Winnipeg, and they were joined by my Aunt Nancy and my Popham grandparents from Lake Cowichan. My Grandmere also flew out with my cousins Eric and Jon from Winnipeg. Marc and Lori's daughter Keelin had her first birthday on the 7th, so there was a little party for her at the Delta hotel where everyone was staying. My mom had the deluxe suite, with a living room and kitchenette, and a fantastic 14th floor view of the parliament and the Gatineau hills, so we spent alot of time meeting up at the hotel. Nancy also had lots of cold "Baha Fogs" waiting for us, which are perfect for summer. Anyhow, it was pretty neat that Ethan and Keelin got to meet their great-grandparents!

Keelin thinks hand-sucking might be ok for Ethan, but she's over it! Grandmere and Grandma make sure she's 'Gentle' with Ethan. Keelin got some cool stuff from her great-grandparents and grandma and her great auntie for her birthday.

The highlight was the Strawberry Shortcake running shoes, I think!

The great grandmothers did such a great job of holding Ethan while we visited; Mom and Papa were very happy for it! And Ethan enjoyed all the attention.

The city was also ready for visitors, and the weather was fantastic, the tulip festival was getting into full bloom so we took advantage of it. We walked all along Dow's lake where the tulips are, and all got lot's of vitamin D in the sunshine. We stopped for a bite to eat at a nice Mexican restaurant in the pavillion and enjoyed the view over the water.

It was a busy week, and we enjoyed it very much. It's always hard to finally see everyone leave Ottawa at the end, and there is always this sense that there was so much more to do yet. I guess it's motivation for our friends to come back.

Or maybe the highlight of that birthday was the pretty cake...

It looks gorgeous there, I'm glad you got to do some hosting in nice weather.

When is his first trip to Manitoba? We are eagerly awaiting! If you are nervous about travelling with a youngster, don't be. At 1-2 months old, James was about as much trouble as another carry-on. Now that he's found his voice, personality, right uppercut, that might have changed. Get out here already.

    Plett,

We just booked Sophie's ticket 2 nights ago. Because we're using Aeroplan points, the only thing we could find was from July 19 - Aug. 18th...a Whole month! She's excited though, and we'll pack the stroller, so she can do lots of exploring. I'm not sure when/how long I can make it out for yet. Soph will be hanging out in Rosenort a fair bit, cause my parents just got setup with a playpen, and I'm sure they'll want to babysit.

We're not expecting any major drama's from bub on the plane - it's only 2 hours. Another 28 hour trip to Oz would get me a bit tense though.

    Tan,

We've had a great time finally getting to see Ottawa in the summer. This is actually the first summer we'll be in Ottawa since we've moved. Having friends/family over has been huge for us this spring - it gives us some reference for talking to people. I just wish that we could get a place with a spare room, so that we could actually "host" people.

You look great, Soph! Haven't seen a full-body shot since before the birth of Ethan. It must have been nice (but a whirlwind of activity) to see so many relatives in such a short amount of time. Can't wait for your visit in July!
